Resource Mobilization and Grants Manager

Location: Headquarters, Nairobi (with travel to other VF Sites)

As the Resource Mobilization and Grants Manager you will be a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure sustainable financial resources for Victory Farms’ community development and operational initiatives. This role will focus on identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with diverse donors, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individual donors, as well as leading the grant acquisition process.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and diversified fundraising strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, strategic goals, and financial needs.
  • Identify and analyze potential funding sources, including grants, corporate partnerships, individual giving, and other innovative financing mechanisms.
  • Establish clear fundraising targets, timelines, and performance metrics.

Donor Identification and Cultivation:

  • Conduct thorough research to identify prospective donors whose funding priorities align with the organization’s work.
  • Develop and implement cultivation strategies to build strong relationships with potential donors, understanding their interests and motivations.
  • Maintain a robust donor database and track all interactions and engagement activities.

Grant Proposal Development and Submission:

  • Lead the full grant proposal development process, including conceptualization, writing, budgeting, and internal review.
  • Ensure the development of high-quality, compelling, and evidence-based proposals that effectively articulate the organization’s impact and needs.
  • Manage the timely submission of grant applications, ensuring adherence to donor guidelines and deadlines.

Grant Management and Compliance:

  • Manage a portfolio of grants, ensuring compliance with all donor requirements, including financial reporting, programmatic reporting, and other contractual obligations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with grant officers and program staff at funding organizations.
  • Track grant performance against agreed-upon indicators and proactively address any challenges or deviations.
  • Ensure all fundraising activities are conducted ethically and in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Donor Relationship Management:

  • Develop and implement strategies for effective donor communication, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Prepare regular updates, impact reports, and acknowledgments for donors to foster long-term engagement and loyalty.
  • Organize donor visits and events to showcase the organization’s work and impact.

Partnership Development and Collaboration:

  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with other organizations, including NGOs, research institutions, and private sector entities, to leverage resources and enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Develop collaborative funding proposals and joint initiatives.

Fundraising Performance Tracking and Analysis:

  • Track and analyze fundraising performance against targets, providing regular reports and insights to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in the funding landscape to inform strategic decision-making.

Capacity Building and Team Support:

  • Provide training and support to relevant staff on fundraising best practices and donor engagement.
  • Foster a culture of resource mobilization across the organization.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Community Development, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fundraising and grant management within the development sector.
  • Proven track record of successful grant acquisition from various funding sources (foundations, corporations, government agencies, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of the Kenyan donor landscape and funding cycles.
  • Excellent proposal writing, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience managing grant portfolios and ensuring compliance with donor regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills to track fundraising performance and identify trends.
  • Proficiency in grant writing software, financial management tools (for budget development), and presentation software.
  • Passion for community development and social impact.
