The ideal Heavy Plant Mechanic to join our team will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various heavy machinery, including trucks, cranes, and bulldozers. This role requires strong mechanical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Equipment Inspection & Diagnosis
- Conduct routine inspections on trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using specialized testing equipment.
- Identify and report damaged or faulty equipment to management.
Repair & Maintenance
- Perform scheduled servicing, lubrication, and cleaning of heavy equipment.
- Adjust equipment and replace worn-out or defective parts to maintain peak performance.
- Conduct major repairs, including engine overhauls and hydraulic system repairs.
- Clean and service machine attachments such as winches, blades, and side booms.
Emergency Response & Troubleshooting
- Respond promptly to mechanical emergencies to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues on-site when necessary.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work completed.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Participate in safety training and preventive maintenance programs.
Skills and qualifications:
- Diploma or Government Trade Test (GTT) certification in Automotive Engineering, Plant Mechanics, or a related heavy equipment mechanic trade.
- Professional certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic from a recognized institution.
- A Minimum of 3 years of practical work experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic, with a strong track record of diagnosing and repairing a diverse range of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Comprehensive understanding of modern testing technologies and diagnostic software used for heavy equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy machinery and components using appropriate lifting equipment and techniques.
- Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and other critical components of construction and heavy-duty equipment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and repair procedures.
