We are seeking a dynamic Hero Supervisor to oversee breeding cycles, fish health, and water quality management. This role involves leading daily operations, feeding regimes, and staff training to ensure compliance and efficiency. You will manage equipment, logistics, and quality assurance while driving continuous process improvement. The Ideal candidates should be detail-oriented and passionate about sustainable aquaculture and operational excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Task Assignment & Scheduling: Efficiently assign tasks, develop schedules, and train staff on breeding techniques, fish handling, and biosecurity measures, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Breeding Cycle Management: Oversee all aspects of the breeding cycle, including broodstock management, spawning, egg collection, incubation, fry rearing, tagging, and harvesting. Monitor fish health and growth, enforcing stringent biosecurity protocols.
  • Water Quality Monitoring: Regularly monitor critical water parameters (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature) and supervise pond and lake cage preparation to maintain optimal environments for fish.
  • Feeding Regimes: Implement and manage precise feeding regimes across all life stages of fish, ensuring proper feed dispensation and storage to promote maximum growth and health.
  • Record Keeping & Analysis: Maintain comprehensive records of production, health, inventory, feeding, and genetic data. Analyze this data to optimize operational processes and report progress to management.
  • Equipment Oversight: Oversee the operation and maintenance of HERO program equipment and assist with budget allocation. Coordinate logistics related to fish transfers, tagging, harvesting, and other major events.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality fish seed production, collaborate on continuous process improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Daily Operations: Supervise daily feeding, monitoring, and health assessments of fish populations at different stages of development.
  • Coordination of Activities: Supervise and coordinate additional activities within the HERO program as assigned by management.

 Skills and qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field such as Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, Marine Biology, Aquatic Science, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven, hands-on experience in fish breeding, hatchery operations, and fish farm management. Experience in a supervisory or team lead role is a strong advantage.
  • Strong understanding of fish nutrition, broodstock management, and aquaculture feed trials.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing precise feeding regimes for various life stages of fish.
  • Knowledge in water quality monitoring, biosecurity, and agricultural/environmental finance models.
  • Familiarity with data collection, analysis, and impact reporting, especially in ESG or biodiversity contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and supervise a team, ensuring high standards of work and safety.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to manage tasks, schedules, and resources efficiently.
  • Proficiency in maintaining meticulous records and analyzing production data to inform business decisions and drive process improvements.
  • Competence in using relevant software for data entry and analysis.
  • Familiarity with local and national regulations governing aquaculture, as issued by the Kenya Fisheries Service.
